 Audition
Information

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! We’re excited to see what you bring to this fun and imaginative show.

Auditions for this show take place September 27–29 and are open to youth ages 8 to 18. Auditions will take place in 30-minute group slots with approximately 8 auditioners per slot. Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time so we can begin promptly.

What to prepare

🎵 Prepare a 1-minute song excerpt

Each auditionee should prepare approximately one minute of a song to perform for the audition panel.

  • You may choose any song you feel showcases your voice and personality.

  • Your song does not need to be from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

  • Please select a section that you are comfortable performing and that gives us a good sense of your voice.

  • You may sing with an accompaniment track or a cappella.

  • Please have your accompaniment ready to play from your phone if you are using one.

You do not need to memorize an entire song—only the approximately one-minute section you plan to perform.

What will happen at the audition

Everyone will participate in three parts of the audition:

1. Song

Each auditionee will perform their prepared one-minute song excerpt individually.

2. Scene reading

You will be given scenes from the show to read with other auditionees.

No scene preparation is required. Scripts/excerpts will be provided at the audition, and you may be asked to read different roles.

We are interested in seeing how you:

         •       Take direction

         •       Work with other actors

         •       Create a character

         •       Read and perform dialogue

3. Choreography

A short choreography combination will be taught during the audition.

No choreography preparation is necessary. Our choreographer will teach the combination to the group, and you will have time to learn and practice it before performing it.

We are looking at how you:

         •       Pick up choreography

         •       Follow directions

         •       Work as part of an ensemble

         •       Perform with energy and confidence

A few important reminders

⭐ Come prepared, but don’t stress! We are looking for performers who are willing to try, take direction, and have fun.

⭐ Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you can move easily in. Please avoid sandals, flip-flops, or restrictive clothing.

⭐ Bring water!

⭐ Be prepared to participate in all three portions of the audition.

⭐ Most importantly, have fun! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a wonderfully imaginative show, and we want our audition experience to reflect that.

We can’t wait to see you at auditions!
